Distressing Techniques
Nothing beats the look and charm of a vintage wood floor. Distressing your new floor can give it an instant lived-in feel. Creating that distressed look involves several different techniques that Bellevue Floor Service has considerable experience with. They can review all those techniques with you, showing you examples of how each technique looks and the costs associated.
Wire Brush
This technique offers a subtle texture to a floor while maintaining a smooth appearance. It pulls the soft grain away from the hardwood slightly, giving the board a worn look. While this may seem very subtle when looking at only one board, over an entire floor this can have a very dramatic affect.
Hand Scraped
This process leaves scrape marks that were once typical of wood flooring. The style gets its name from the once-common technique of using a draw knife to scrape a plank into smoothness. The result is an uneven, yet smooth surface.
Time-Worn Aged
Time worn aged offers characteristics of a hardwood floor that has seen distressing caused by age, such as dark colored staining to highlight the grain in the species itself. In some cases, mild contouring is also seen along with character markings.
Extreme Distressing
The use of chains, screws, drilled holes, and other techniques create a very rustic style to hardwood flooring. Beating the wood using chains will create dents with no defined pattern. Applying screws and drilling random holes in newly applied planks will give the appearance of reclaimed lumber.
